About studio

Toledano & Welschen, kitchen and interior design, is founded by Inma Toledano and Joanneke Welschen.
Our studio is located in Utrecht, near the old city centre, in a monumental building characterised by the Amsterdam School style (1925).
We work in the fields of residential and commercial interior architecture and interior design. In addition, we have an eye for the design and realization of bespoke kitchens. We would love to hear from you about your project.

About us

Both of us were breaking new ground and during this exploration, we met. Our Spatial Design study in Eindhoven is the foundation of Toledano & Welschen. This was a time when we were encouraged to make a lot of experimental work in which we could express ourselves well as designers. Even though we had different approaches, we became inspired by each other’s work. Nowadays, we make good use of these differences and form a complementary team.
“We decided to join forces with the shared mission of providing people with interior design that enhances their sense of well-being.”
Through our collaborative process, we approach spatial design with an artisan’s eye and the understanding that interior design is fundamentally about people and how they live.
Joanneke Fousert- Welschen

Joanneke was born in the Netherlands. She studied communication and completed her Master’s degree at the university of Amsterdam. Then pursued a successful career in media, working in marketing. This has laid the foundation for her keen understanding of people’s needs and her ability to translate these desires into concrete solutions.

From an early age she was surrounded by craftsmen such as ceramists, glassblowers and metalworkers. Creating something from scratch, fascinates her. This has led Joanneke to follow a training to become a traditional cabinet maker and later to start a small atelier. It became clear, however, that her true interest lies in shaping the broader scope. This is what motivated her to take the next step and study spatial design.

She feels bespoke solutions contribute to a space that flawlessly matches a person’s unique needs. Her experiences as a cabinet maker therefore serve well creating interiors that are meaningful.

“I always intend to create a home based on personal wishes and requirements by using authentic ideas. This jigsaw constantly keeps me busy and inspired”.
Inma Toledano
Inma, born in Asturias, Spain, came to The Netherlands follow the love, after she got her psychology degree at a university in Spain. Her passion for architecture and interior design was sparked at a young age in high school when she immersed herself in art history where the tremendous curiosity to know more and more about all forms of art, in particular for architecture and interiors, was sown.
“Moving to an unfamiliar country made me shape my environment so that it felt at home. As a result, I developed a sharp sense of observation and an understanding of what it takes to create this unique and personal feeling.”

Her work as a psychologist has enhanced her sensitivity to observation and understanding people in the way they live. Something that contributes in her current role.

During the renovation of her house – a landmark building built by G. T. Rietveld in 1932 – all her experience, passion and knowledge came to fruition and ultimately turned professional when she decided to change her career path.
